Narrative and Todorov

Narrative
How the story is constructed eg. beginning, middle, end.

Linea: Story is told in the order in which it happens
Non-Linea: Manipulated narrative/flashbacks/order is changed

Todorov
Equilibrium: State of Normality
Disruption: A disturbance to the normality
New Equilibrium: A new normality as a result of the disruption

Todorov believe that there are the same character roles in every film we watch. These character roles are...

The Villain - Struggles again the hero
The Donor - Prepares the hero or gives the hero some magical object
The (Magical) Helper - Help the hero in the quest
The Princess and her Father - Gives the task to the hero, identifies the false hero, marries the hero, often sought for during the narrative. Noted that functionally the princess and the father cannot be clearly distinguished
The Dispatcher - Character who makes the lack known and sends the hero off
The Hero or Victim - Reacts to the donor, weds the princess
False Hero - Takes credit for the heroes actions or tries to marry the princess
